LAS VEGAS, Jan. 9, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Today at CES, Ossia unveiled the next generation of Cota Tile, a wireless power transmitter disguised as a drop ceiling tile. The new Cota Tile consumes less than one-third of the electricity its predecessor required, yet delivers 10 percent more wireless power to devices. As Ossia moves to commercialize Cota wireless power in 2018, the next-gen Cota Tile is coming to CES for live demonstrations and to spark the imagination of what is possible with Real Wireless Power™.
"The next-gen Cota Tile shows how rapidly we can increase the power efficiency, performance and while reducing the cost of real wireless power transmitters," said Hatem Zeine, CTO and founder of Ossia. "This fifth generation of Cota technology reflects 10 years of relentless innovation and refinement."
Cota Tile delivers real wireless power without plugs, wires, or charging pads. It can power multiple devices in motion, without a line of sight, at a distance. Cota technology is inherently safe and does not interfere with other wireless technologies. All Cota-enabled devices are interoperable and can be activated, managed and monitored via the Cota Cloud platform.
The next-gen Cota Tile is the first prototype based on the Cota® Reference Design Kit, using Ossia's commercially available chipset for real wireless power. The Cota Chipset features custom application-specific integrated circuits (ASICs) rather than off-the-shelf chips.
In Cota Tile, the custom ASICs reduced AC input power from 450W to 140W – roughly a 70 percent gain in efficiency. At the same time, the new Tile delivers 10 percent more power to receivers from an equivalent array of antennas.
The next-gen Cota Tile also demonstrates Ossia's ability to condense wireless power transmitters into compact form factors. Ossia's new design reduced weight by 40 percent, volume by 35 percent and cost by 25 percent.
This year in Las Vegas, Ossia will demo three CES award-winning technologies. Ossia's Cota Forever BatteryTM, the world's first wirelessly-powered alternative to disposable AA batteries, is a CES 2018 Innovation Award Honoree. At CES 2017, the first-generation Cota Tile earned a Best of Innovation Award. And Cota, Ossia's core wireless power technology, was a CES Innovation Award Honoree in the Tech for a Better World product category in 2016.
See Cota Tile in action and meet the Ossia team at the SANDS booth 42374 in the Wireless and Devices section.
