Orthopedic Sports Medicine Specialist John P. Seaberg, MD explains common causes of shoulder pain at free community seminar
HOUSTON, Nov. 21, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Dr. John P. Seaberg, board-certified orthopedic sports medicine specialist at Houston Methodist Orthopedics & Sports Medicine, presented a free community seminar on common causes of shoulder pain held on November 5, 2014 at Houston Methodist Willowbrook Hospital.
Shoulder pain is a common complaint and the third most common cause of musculoskeletal disorders, after low back pain and neck pain. Shoulder pain can become debilitating and hinder range of motion and daily living activities.
Dr. Seaberg specializes in shoulder injuries and conditions affecting young athletes and active adults alike. He received subspecialty training in orthopedic sports medicine from the renowned American Sports Medicine Institute in Birmingham, Alabama. Dr. Seaberg is a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and serves as head team physician for Prairie View A&M University in Prairie View, Texas.
"Understanding when shoulder pain is fatigue from excessive exertion or something more serious is important. Pain is your body's way of alerting you to something that's not right, and the way you respond can make a big difference in how quickly you'll recover," said Seaberg.
The Hand and Upper Extremity Rehabilitation Therapy team explained the role of rehabilitation therapy in treatment of shoulder injuries and conditions.
According to Gail Hannahs, OTR, CHT, Director of Sports Medicine Rehabilitation, the sports medicine therapy team provides a unique benefit to patients. With extensive experience and advanced certification in rehabilitation therapy, they work closely with the orthopedic physicians to ensure optimal functional outcomes.
