Orthopedic Specialist Korsh Jafarnia, MD Spoke to the Community at a Free Hand, Wrist & Elbow Seminar at Houston Methodist Willowbrook Hospital
HOUSTON, Oct. 17, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Dr. Korsh Jafarnia, hand and upper extremity specialist with Houston Methodist Orthopedics & Sports Medicine, shared the latest advances in hand and upper extremity care for "Active Families on the Go" in a free community seminar held in September at Houston Methodist Willowbrook Hospital.
Dr. Jafarnia spoke to a crowded room about some of the common hand, wrist and elbow injuries and conditions seen most often in fall sports as well as those experienced by the weekend warrior and everyday active population - including wrist fractures, little leaguer's elbow, tennis and golfer's elbow and carpal tunnel syndrome.
"These community seminars are a great opportunity for Northwest Houston families to learn how to both prevent some of the injuries and conditions we see most this time of year, as well as recognize when they really should see a physician," said Jafarnia.
"We provide these seminars to address specific concerns, share new treatment options and give families the tools they need to stay healthy for all the activities they love to do and the everyday things they need to do," added Jafarnia.
Dr. Jafarnia was joined by his Hand and Upper Extremity Therapy Team, who discussed some of the latest rehabilitation therapies used in both the nonsurgical treatment and postoperative care of hand and upper extremity injuries and conditions.
"Our Hand and Upper Extremity Therapy team has extensive experience and advanced hand therapy certification. We work collaboratively with Dr. Jafarnia and the specialists in Houston Methodist Orthopedics & Sports Medicine at Willowbrook to provide the most optimal opportunity to patients for successful functional outcomes," said Gail Hannahs, OTR, CHT, manager, Sports Medicine Rehabilitation.
Serving as a clinical assistant professor of Baylor College of Medicine for the past 12 years and now as an assistant professor for clinical orthopaedic surgery for Weill Cornell Medical College, Dr. Jafarnia is committed to education and helping families become proactive in their healthcare.
Board certified and fellowship trained, Dr. Jafarnia holds a certificate of added qualifications in surgery of the hand (CAQSH) and is annually recognized by some of the medical community's most prominent listings of top physicians, including Castle Connolly, US News & World Report, Newsweek magazine and Texas Monthly's Super Doctors.
He studied advanced techniques in hand surgery at the French Institute for Hand Surgery in Paris before completing a residency program at Baylor College of Medicine. He then completed his fellowship in Hand and Upper Extremity Surgery at Massachusetts General Hospital at Harvard Medical School.
The Hand and Upper Extremity Therapy team at Houston Methodist Willowbrook Hospital consists of board certified hand therapists trained in the latest techniques, including functional evaluation and treatment techniques, BTE work assessment/simulation, advanced splinting and wound care, and manual therapy intervention including the Graston Technique.
