Orthodox Group Airs Radio Ads Condemning Netanyahu's Plans to Speak to Congress
BROOKLYN, N.Y., Feb. 18, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- True Torah Jews, an Orthodox group representing the views of over 200,000 Jews living in communities in New York and other cities, has condemned Benjamin Netanyahu's plans to address a joint session of the House and Senate on March 3, and they are even going as far as airing radio ads to disassociate from the Israel leader.
"Netanyahu's chutzpah in going behind President Obama's back, with the express intention of intervening in the American political system and showing utter disrespect for our President, is shocking and unprecedented," said Rabbi Yoel Klein, a spokesman for the group. "We, as American Jews, don't want to have anything to do with him. We are loyal to our country and support our President."
The radio ad, which is running over a two-week period on WABC New York, states in part: "Netanyahu often claims to speak on behalf of the Jewish people. American Jews wish to repudiate his statements and remind the world of the existence of large Jewish communities whom Netanyahu and his State do not represent. Mr. Netanyahu, you do NOT speak on our behalf. Our message is clear: The State of Israel cannot – and should not – claim to represent world Jewry. The Jewish People have already paid far too dearly for the Jewish identity theft committed by Israeli politicians."
