SAN LORENZO, Calif., Feb. 13, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Oro Loma Sanitary District's Maintenance Department has achieved an extraordinary safety record – 20 years with no lost-time accidents in an environment where accidents are an ever-present danger.
The Board of the Oro Loma Sanitary District formally recognized the outstanding accomplishment at its February 6, 2018 meeting.
This record was achieved through extensive training, including a Lock-Out, Tag-Out program that ensures that machines are properly shut off, and a culture that expects adherence to safety protocols, where employees look out for each other.
Board President Shelia Young stated, "Oro Loma Sanitary District is honored to announce the incredible accomplishment of our Maintenance Department staff in marking its 20th year with no lost-time accidents or injuries. The culture of this organization continues to be one of 'all for one, and one for all' in protecting and managing its daily workflow to the safety of each and every employee. We are proud to share our pride with service area residential customers."
Oro Loma General Manager Jason Warner added, "The safety record reflects the group's integrity, commitment to keeping one another accountable to safe work, and doing the right thing when no one is looking. The maintenance group works well together and discusses potential hazards and how to address them before starting work." He continued, "Each employee contributing to this milestone did thousands of small things right to achieve it. One can have sound training, the right equipment, and good policies in place, but at the end of the day, it is the worker's decision to do the right thing. The record is even more impressive when you realize that the work involves many risks including high voltage, dangerous gases, chemicals handling and delivery systems, and systems that need to be maintained while in operation. This department deserves all the praise that the Board has bestowed upon it."
