TUKWILA, Wash., Nov. 9, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Nearly a year after more than 90 APP/World Fuel Services fuel drivers ratified their first Teamster contract, a group of 16 propane drivers and service technicians joined them this week, voting by a wide margin to become members of Teamsters Local 174. The organizing victory came after a months-long anti-union campaign by their employer.
These newly-organized Teamsters do challenging and dangerous work, driving propane trucks for delivery to commercial and residential customers throughout the Puget Sound area. Transporting these highly flammable products requires a CDL with HAZMAT endorsement and significant training.
"This group of APP workers saw firsthand the improvements their fuel driver brothers and sisters earned after voting to join the Teamsters, so it's no great surprise they wanted to follow in their footsteps and become Teamsters as well," said Teamsters Local 174 Secretary-Treasurer Rick Hicks. "We welcome these propane drivers and service technicians to our family, and look forward to negotiating a first contract that will reward them for the difficult and dangerous work they perform on a daily basis."
