Oregon Resident Wins HGTV Urban Oasis Giveaway 2017
KNOXVILLE, Tenn., Dec. 20, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Magne Jensen, a retiree from Beaverton, Oregon, has never had much luck with contests or giveaways, so it was a bit of a shock when he found out he was selected as the winner of the HGTV Urban Oasis® Giveaway 2017. Jensen's name was randomly drawn from over 65 million entries to win the grand prize package valued at more than $600,000.
The giveaway includes a completely remodeled and furnished bungalow-style home in Knoxville, Tennessee, plus $50,000 provided by national mortgage lender Quicken Loans®. The home is located in the historic Fourth and Gill neighborhood, known for its unique vibe and its proximity to Knoxville's burgeoning downtown area.
Until now, Jensen's biggest giveaway haul had been a book he won from a local radio station. That didn't prevent him from entering twice a day, however. "I figured, what have I got to lose? I've never won anything before, but you never know," remarked Jensen. "Eventually you've got to win something."
Even with his optimism, the congratulatory phone call from HGTV didn't initially strike him as the real deal. "When I got the call, I thought, 'uh huh, right,' and didn't show any emotion," Jensen explained. After it sunk in for a few minutes, though, his mood quickly shifted from nonplussed to complete disbelief. "I've never won anything like this in my life. This is just a blessing."
Jensen enjoys cooking for his family, and he said the colorful open-concept kitchen in HGTV Urban Oasis 2017 is his favorite space in the house. He also had some extra incentive to enter the giveaway, as he and his wife have many fond memories from a family trip to Nashville last summer. "We fell in love with Tennessee, the atmosphere and the nice people," noted Jensen.
With art direction and décor from Atlanta-based interior designer Brian Patrick Flynn, HGTV Urban Oasis 2017 features three bedrooms and two bathrooms centered around an open and airy living concept. Project Manager Scott Branscom oversaw the renovation process, which required turning a duplex with separate living spaces into a single-family home. Designed and renovated by local firms Open Door Architecture and Tillman Companies, the home exudes laid-back urban elegance with an easy living vibe. It features natural materials, period-correct details that pay homage to the historical Craftsman style, a muted color palette inspired by the nearby Smoky Mountains and spectacular outdoor spaces for entertaining.
The HGTV Urban Oasis 2017 sponsors include Overstock.com, Inc. (NASDAQ: OSTK); Quicken Loans®; Kohler Co.; Samsung Electronics America, Inc.; SimpliSafe Home Security; American Institute of Architects; and Bush Brothers & Company.
