SALEM, Ore., June 2, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Oregon Virtual Academy (ORVA), a tuition-free, online public school serving students in grades K-12 will host an in-person graduation ceremony for its class of 2016 graduating seniors.
ORVA provides a flexible learning environment for students, allowing them to complete their school work on a schedule that works best for them. While working with the award-winning K12 curriculum, Oregon state-certified teachers provide assistance helping students fill in skill gaps and move toward high school graduation.
Graduation provides an opportunity for students who have completed their academics online and developed friendships virtually to meet in-person to celebrate. Previous years graduates have gone on to attend prestigious colleges and universities such as Oregon State University, Liberty University, Santa Monica College and University of Oregon.
The commencement speaker addressing the graduates is Eric Knox, an All-Pac 10 basketball player at Oregon State University and Portland resident. Knox is a pastor at Imago Dei church and coaches basketball at Benson High School. He is also the founder of Holla Foundation, a youth focused organization dedicated to changing the narrative of vulnerable children and families through culturally responsive mentorship.
Additionally, ORVA valedictorian Sarra Hawash will address her fellow graduates. "I am very excited to have the opportunity to participate in graduation because I have had such a great experience with ORVA," said Hawash. In the fall, Hawash will attend Oregon State University's Honors College where she will major in bio-health towards a pre-med degree. She then hopes to attend Oregon Health and Science University and one day become a pediatrician.
"Graduation is a special time for teachers and staff at ORVA," said Brandy Osborn, Head of School for ORVA. "It is an opportunity to celebrate our student's success and wish them well on their next academic journey. We are so proud of all our graduates."
Media is invited to attend the celebration and event details are provided below.
