SALEM, Ore., June 24, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Oregon Bankers Association (OBA) inducted John Hancock, partner, Moss Adams LLP, into the Oregon Bankers Hall of Fame during its Annual Convention held in Sun Valley, Idaho last week. Induction into the Oregon Bankers Hall of Fame is the highest honor bestowed peer-to-peer on members of the Oregon banking community. It recognizes the outstanding contributions inductees have made to the Oregon banking industry and the communities they serve.
Linda Navarro, president and CEO of the OBA, stated, "The Oregon Bankers Association is thrilled to welcome John Hancock into the Hall of Fame. He has devoted his time and talents serving the Oregon banking industry and the State of Oregon throughout his entire career."
Hancock graduated from the University of Oregon with a degree in Finance in 1971 and soon after began his banking career at First National Bank of Oregon, which later became First Interstate Bank. He went back to school at Portland State University to obtain his Masters in Accounting, while continuing to work full-time as a commercial lender.
In 1980, Hancock left banking to start working for the accounting firm Moss Adams LLP. His passion for banking never waned and led him to start a banking niche within the firm's Portland office. In 1991, he was named a partner of the firm, leading a banking practice that today includes over 125 full-time personnel and more than 300 financial institution clients.
In all of his work and throughout his career, Hancock has been a mentor to many Oregon bankers. He is viewed as a highly trusted advisor and a partner in the success of many banks. In addition to his career-long dedication to bettering the banking industry, Hancock has dedicated his life to helping others. From SOLV to United Cerebral Palsy to Big Brothers Big Sisters, he has devoted countless hours to community and charitable organizations.
Since its creation in 1987, the Oregon Bankers Hall of Fame has inducted 74 individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the Oregon banking community and communities where they live and work.
