Orchard Supply Hardware Celebrates Third Oregon Location in Portland's Historic Hollywood Bowl Building
Weekend-long grand opening event, May 16-17, to include customer giveaways, great offers, entertainment and fun for the whole family
SAN JOSE, Calif., May 8, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Orchard Supply Hardware® (OSH) will host a grand opening ceremony and weekend-long celebration at its newest Portland-area location (4030 N.E. Halsey St.) beginning Sat., May 16, 2015. This is the home and garden retailer's third store to open in Oregon, providing more options for paint, repair and the backyard in Portland.
The celebration kicks off at 6:30 a.m., and will feature door giveaways, live entertainment and opportunities to win prizes throughout the day. The store officially opens after OSH's traditional board-cutting ceremony at 6:55 a.m., led by store manager Jeff Zesiger. As a thank you to its new neighbors, OSH will give the first 100 adults in line on May 16 a $25 gift card, and the first 500 customers on May 16 and 17 a canvas shopping tote.
"Portland's community values, pride in ownership and strong do-it-yourself mentality are ideals that Orchard Supply Hardware has embodied for nearly 85 years. Growing in Oregon was a natural step for us -- we were thrilled to bring stores to Beaverton and Tigard in 2013, and look forward to becoming an active member of NE Portland's Hollywood neighborhood," said Bob Tellier, President, Orchard Supply Hardware.
At nearly 40,000-square-feet, the new OSH store resides in NE Portland's old Hollywood Bowl building on Halsey Street, which occupies an entire city block near the Hollywood Transit Center and MAX station. The building's design incorporates elements from the old bowling alley site, including wood from the original lanes which was repurposed and is on display picturing the iconic Hollywood Theater. Local artist Loey Hargrove of Left Ear Studio created a custom mural on the storefront which exemplifies the artistic spirit that is Portland.
"Over the past few months, the Portland-Hollywood store team has loved getting to know our surrounding community," said Zesiger. "The 69 associates from the area have helped all of us to get to know the neighborhood, and we're looking forward to continuing to create relationships here over the coming years."
As part of OSH's "Neighbors Helping Neighbors" philosophy, each new store selects a local charity partner – OSH Portland-Hollywood is teaming up with Friends of Trees, a 501(c)3 nonprofit dedicated bringing people together to plant and care for city trees and green spaces in the Pacific Northwest. During the May 16 grand opening ceremony, Zesiger will present the organization with a $5,000 donation. OSH and Friends of Trees kicked off their partnership in early April, when 6 OSH associates joined the nonprofit in planting nearly 100 trees in the surrounding neighborhood.
"It's been a pleasure working with Jeff and his team over the past several months to help Orchard Supply Hardware establish roots in the community," said Andy Meeks, Friends of Trees' development manager. "OSH's commitment to helping their neighbors aligns with and directly supports Friends of Trees' work in bringing members of nearby neighborhoods together to plant street and yard trees together. We look forward to partnering with them for many years to come."
Orchard Supply Hardware currently has two other stores in the area, located in Beaverton (10860 SW Barnes Rd.) and Tigard (9770 SW Scholls Ferry Rd.). A fourth Oregon store on SE Belmont St. is slated to open in 2017.
