REDWOOD SHORES, Calif., Oct. 29, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Oracle today announced that it has been recognized in two recent Gartner database-focused reports. Oracle was named a Leader in Gartner's 2018 "Magic Quadrant for Operational Database Management Systems" report1 and was ranked first in all four use cases of the 2018 Gartner "Critical Capabilities for Operational Database Management Systems" report2. Included in both reports, the self-driving Oracle Autonomous Database eliminates complexity, human error, and manual management to enable higher reliability, security, and more operational efficiency.
"We believe that our placement in the reports is recognition of Oracle's continued leadership in the database market, a result of our ongoing commitment to database technology," said Andrew Mendelsohn, Executive Vice President Database Server Technologies, Oracle. "Our latest innovation, Oracle Autonomous Database, provides organizations with a self-driving, self-securing, and self-repairing database to help run all workloads in the cloud with low risk and low cost."
In naming Oracle a Leader in the Gartner Magic Quadrant for Operational Database Management Systems, Gartner cited Oracle's vision in cloud innovation led by the introduction of Oracle Autonomous Database. For the Gartner Operational Database Management Systems Critical Capabilities report, the firm evaluated vendor products' ability to support four core operational database use cases (workloads): traditional transactions, operational and analytics convergence, distributed variable data, and event processing/data in motion. Gartner ranked Oracle (Oracle Database) number one in all four of these use cases.
Oracle Autonomous Database consists of Oracle Autonomous Transaction Processing optimized for running transactions and mixed workloads and Oracle Autonomous Data Warehouse for running analytic database workloads. Both flavors of autonomous database offer self-driving, self-securing, and self-repairing capabilities that can automatically discover threats and remediate them while the database is running. These capabilities along with high elasticity and exceptional performance enable customers to run all their Oracle databases in the cloud with unprecedented availability, performance, and security—at a significantly lower cost.
