Chemours and Partners Honored for Use of Low GWP Opteon™ XP40 in Convenience Store
WILMINGTON, Del., Feb. 19, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- The Chemours Company ("Chemours") (NYSE: CC), a global chemistry company with leading market positions in titanium technologies, fluoroproducts and chemical solutions, together with Climalife UK, was honored with the Environmental Project of the Year award from the ACR News at a February 17 ceremony in Birmingham, England.
The project was a cooperative effort among Chemours, Climalife UK, Ultra Refrigeration and Lincoln Co-Op. It involved the installation of a new system using Opteon™ XP40 refrigerant from Chemours in a newly built Lincoln Co-Op convenience store. Opteon™ XP40, which has very low global warming potential (GWP), is an alternative to high GWP HFCs such as R-404A.
The convenience store, located in Newark, England, is the first of its kind in the U.K. to use Opteon™ XP40 in a new store installation. The switch to Opteon™ was made in April 2015, and it is expected to deliver approximately five percent energy savings as well as a significant reduction in potential global warming impact.
Opteon™ XP40 (R-449A) is a commercially available, nonflammable, hydrofluorolefin (HFO) blend with a GWP of 1397, approximately one-third that of the primary refrigerant it is intended to replace and it is the optimal choice to replace high GWP HFCs in stationary refrigeration systems. Based on current orders and customer product testing, Opteon™ XP40 is on pace to be used in more than 1,000 supermarket and commercial refrigeration systems worldwide by the end of this year.
"We are honored to receive this recognition and would like to congratulate our project partners Climalife UK, Ultra Refrigeration and Lincoln Co-Op," said Diego Boeri, global business director for Chemours Fluorochemicals. "This award represents further confirmation of what our customers tell us every day, which is that they see Opteon™ XP40 as the preferred low-GWP replacement for products such as R-404a because it offers both better performance for their business and the environment."
The Opteon™ portfolio of fluorochemicals from Chemours represents a breakthrough line of low GWP solutions. They were developed to help meet increasingly stringent global regulations while maintaining or improving performance compared to incumbent products. Chemours has invested millions of dollars to bring these new products to market and will continue to invest in new products and additional capacity as the need for low GWP solutions grows throughout the world.
