Exelon Corporation Analyst Notes
On May 27, 2014, Exelon Corporation (Exelon) reported that its operators returned Braidwood Generating Station Unit 2 to full power, marking the end of the unit's scheduled refuelling outage that began May 3, 2014. According to the Company, more than 2,000 Exelon employees and highly skilled contractors performed numerous safety inspections and equipment tests, along with plant refurbishments and improvements activities during the outage. Public Service Enterprise Group Inc. Analyst Notes
On May 29, 2014, Public Service Enterprise Group Inc. (PSE&G) announced its proposal to reduce residential natural gas bills for the coming winter by about 9%. In its annual filing with the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities, the Company informed that it would reduce the basic gas supply rate to $0.45 from $0.54, which is the lowest rate in 14 years. According to the Company, with the new rates, effective from October 1, 2014, customers can save almost $15 during winter, or c.$100 for the year. The Company stated that a typical residential heating customer that uses 160 therms in the winter months, and 1,050 therms per year, would see bills reduced to $987.96 from $1,084.74. Jorge Cardenas, PSE&G Vice President of Asset Management and Centralized Services, said, "We are pleased to once again propose to lower gas bills for our customers during the next winter heating season. Since January 2009, our residential gas customers have benefited from multiple rate decreases. Once this decrease goes into effect, gas supply reductions will have lowered bills 44 percent in the last five years. "In addition," Cardenas said, "customers have enjoyed several months of bill credits this winter that saved the typical customer about $173 since last November." PPL Corporation Analyst Notes
On May 29, 2014, PPL Corporation reported that its subsidiary Western Power Distribution (WPD) has been carrying out helicopter patrols across East Midlands as part of its network inspection work in June-July, 2014. The Company informed that the helicopters will be used to spot potential hazards on the high voltage overhead network and to highlight areas where future work may be needed, followed by a look-out for growing trees into overhead lines, which may cause problems in stormy weather. Robin Tutcher, Chief Pilot, WPD, said, "Using a helicopter for patrols is the safest, fastest and most effective way to carry out checks on large sections of the network. Taking this bird's eye view enables us to check large areas quickly. We're able to spot potential hazards early so that our engineers can plan investment and maintenance work more effectively, and do any necessary work before it causes problems for our customers." SCANA Corporation Analyst Notes
On May 22, 2014, SCANA Corporation (SCANA) that its subsidiary South Carolina Electric & Gas Company and its partners, placed approximately 900-ton containment vessel bottom head (CVBH) on the basemat of V.C. Summer Unit 3, on May 21, 2014. Measuring approximately 40 feet tall and 130 feet wide, the CVBH is the first of five sections comprising the robust structure that will house the reactor vessel and other plant safety systems. Kevin Marsh, SCANA Chairman and CEO, said, "We successfully placed the Unit 2 bottom head in May 2013, and it's equally exciting to see the same success with Unit 3 just a year later." ITC Holdings Corp. Analyst Notes
On May 29, 2014, ITC Holdings Corp. (ITC) announced that The Public Service Commission of Wisconsin (PSCW) has approved its applications to become an authorized public utility holding company in the state, as well as for its operating subsidiary ITC Midwest LLC, to become a Wisconsin public utility. The Company informed that the approvals issued by the PSCW on May 7, 2014, represents ITC Midwest's first step toward developing its portion of a regional transmission project in Wisconsin and Iowa called multi-value project (MVP) #5 by Midcontinent Independent System Operator (MISO). The project, a new 345 kV line from Dubuque, Iowa area to Madison, is a reflection of ITC's continuing efforts to facilitate development of regional transmission projects.
