The list of winners, which includes Beast in Portland, Cochon in New Orleans, and Gwynnett St. in Brooklyn, spans 17 states and Washington, D.C. With regard to metropolitan areas, the San Francisco Bay Area has the greatest number of winners with 17, followed by Chicago with 13 winners. Oregon's Portland and Seattle each boast 11 winning restaurants, and Los Angeles and Philadelphia have 10 apiece. Six standouts hail from New York City, trailed by Atlanta with four honorees, Cambridge, Mass. and Minneapolis with three each, and Denver and Portland, Maine, with two. Other winning restaurants are located in Forestville, Calif., Houston, New Orleans, Phoenix, Salt Lake City, Scottsdale, Tampa, Washington, D.C. and Yountville, Calif. While a large share of the award-winning restaurants serve contemporary American fare, an array of cuisines are represented, including Cajun, Chinese, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Latin American, Mexican, Middle Eastern, Thai, vegetarian, and Vietnamese.
"Foodies are connoisseurs of every cuisine, seeking authenticity and excellence in every bite, whether they're eating Southern poutine at Abattoir in Atlanta, a smoked sardine at Camino in Oakland, jalapeno hush puppies at New York's Dirt Candy, or pork belly sliders at Spur in Seattle," said Caroline Potter, OpenTable's Chief Dining Officer. "The winning restaurants are all very ingredient-focused, serving the cream of each season's crop using inspired techniques to the delight of even the most discerning diners' appetites."
The Diners' Choice Awards for the Top 100 Fit for Foodies Restaurants are generated from more than 5 million reviews collected from verified OpenTable diners between September 1, 2011 and August 31, 2012. All restaurants with a minimum number of qualifying reviews were included for consideration. Restaurants were then scored and sorted according to the percentage of qualifying reviews for which "fit for foodies" was selected as a special feature.
Based on this methodology, the following restaurants, listed in alphabetical order, comprise the Top 100 Fit for Foodies Restaurants in the U.S. according to OpenTable diners. The complete list may also be viewed at http://www.opentable.com/foodies.
