OpenPeak Secures U.S. Patent for Industry's First Split-Billing System for Mobile Data Plans

BOCA RATON, Fla., Jan. 21, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- OpenPeak Inc., a leading enterprise mobility management solutions provider, today announced it has been awarded U.S. Patent No. 8,938,547 for its exclusive split-billing system that tracks and enables billing for business and personal data usage separately on the same mobile device. The cross-platform technology is the first of its kind in-market that allows companies to pay directly and accurately for data used for business purposes on employees' personal devices.

The split-billing system eliminates the burdensome, inaccurate manual estimation and reimbursement systems used by most companies to compensate employees for business use of their personal mobile devices and data plans. It also enables companies to more easily and equitably comply with new state laws that mandate employee reimbursement. In August, the California Court of Appeal ruled that employers must reimburse employees for BYOD usage expenses when they are required to use their personal devices for business purposes. Other states are expected to follow suit.

The patent is the first issued in a family of filings that will cover all aspects of BYOD dual usage, including network allocation and on-device, client-side solutions.
