Opening tomorrow: Ad space in major media up for CJF auction
TORONTO, May 19, 2015 /CNW/ - The Canadian Journalism Foundation's (CJF) online auction for prime advertising space in major media outlets will open May 20. Space in The Globe and Mail, Maclean's, Metro and the Toronto Star are up for bids on the CJF online auction page. Proceeds will help fund programs.
The auction will close June 3 at 9:00 p.m., with the successful bidders announced that same evening at the CJF Awards at The Fairmont Royal York in Toronto.
"This ad auction presents great value for companies looking to get their message out," says Natalie Turvey, executive director of the CJF. "At the same time, funds raised through the auction will go a long way in helping promote great journalism, through our awards program, and stimulating discussion on key issues in the media by supporting our monthly speaker series, CJF J-Talks. The participating news organizations have shown great generosity in donating advertising space to help support our goals."

This year, the CJF Awards will celebrate the organization's 25th anniversary. Peter Mansbridge, host of The National and Mansbridge: One on One with CBC News, will host the event, the annual gathering of journalists, academics and business leaders to celebrate excellence in journalism.
Highlights of the evening include the presentation of the new CJF Innovation Award, recognizing innovations that have a demonstrated impact in advancing the quality of journalism; the annual CJF Tribute, this year honouring Malcolm Gladwell for his pioneering work as journalist and author; and the Lifetime Achievement Award, presented to Michel Auger, the longtime crime reporter with Le Journal de Montréal who survived six shots to his back while he was in a parking lot across from the newspaper's office.
Other awards to be presented at the event include the Excellence in Journalism Award – awarded to winners in two categories: large media and small media – the CJF Aboriginal Journalism Fellowships, The Landsberg Award, the Greg Clark Award, the Tom Hanson Photojournalism Award, the William Southam Journalism Fellowships, the Atkinson Fellowship in Public Policy and the Martin Wise Goodman Canadian Nieman Fellowship at Harvard University.
The CJF thanks the following organizations for their support of this event: RBC, Jackman Foundation, BMO Financial Group, Labatt Breweries of Canada, Accenture, Medtronic, Scotiabank, Shaw Communications, Postmedia, Manulife Financial, Rogers and CTV News.
The CJF also thanks Blackberry, Porter, CBC News, CNW, Maclean's, Metro, The Globe and Mail and Toronto Star for their generous in-kind donations.
