The new roads connect Yerevan-Artashat and Yerevan-Ashtarak, sections 2 and 3 respectively. The North-South Road Corridor is an important infrastructure that will link Armenia with Iran and, through Georgia, with the Black Sea.
The works carried out in section 2 include the expansion and reconstruction of the M2 Highway between the capital city of Yerevan and Artashat, a 20 km long infrastructure. The road has now three lanes each way and the existing pavement has been totally renewed and replaced with concrete pavement. Entries and exits of the highway and drainage ditches have also been rehabilitated. A new lighting system is also in place.
M1 Highway has been rebuilt in the 11 km long section 3, between the cities of Yerevan and Ashtarak. The road alignment has been modified in each of the two-lane carriageways, now made of concrete pavement. New entries and exits to the highway have been built and a new drainage system is in place.
In addition to these two new sections, Isolux Corsan is undertaking the construction of a highway with two-lane carriageways connecting the cities of Ashtarak and Talin, northwest of Yerevan. This 42 km long infrastructure connects with section 3. The layout of this highway includes different sections to be widened (25km in total) and other sections to be realigned (17 km in total). A total of 150 drainage works, 20 different structures (underpasses and overpasses) and various road entries and exists are also included in the project.
