Open Source Storage Releases Open Cluster ZX Storage Solution
Enterprise data storage solution mounts to any proprietary infrastructure and reduces data storage costs by up to 30%
SAN JOSE, Calif., March 12, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Open Source Storage (OSS), the visionaries and creators of enterprise data storage solutions, today released the Open Cluster ZX, a storage solution designed to mount to any data infrastructure and reduce typical storage costs by 30%. Built for enterprises that need premier performance, scalability and reliability for big data analytics and other demanding computing initiatives, the Open Cluster ZX promises to help organizations meet the challenges of a rapidly growing data universe.
Designed strictly using open standard components and open source software, the Open Cluster ZX is built to serve as a standalone system or mount to any existing data infrastructure. The Open Cluster ZX leverages N1.618 Plug and Play Middleware, the first middleware that allows enterprises to expand storage with open source technology while continuing to use their current storage systems. This allows enterprises to transition to open source without sacrificing their investment in proprietary storage or abandoning their storage filing systems.
The Open Cluster ZX is built for a wide variety of use cases including big data analytics, high performance computing, services (IaaS, PaaS and SaaS) and virtual servers based on OpenStack. The ZX is also suitable for Network Attached Storage, VM-aware storage and Object Storage.
"The Open Cluster ZX is for enterprises that want to rapidly deploy and scale data storage without the shocking upfront costs and annual software licensing fees of proprietary systems," said Eren Niazi, CEO of Open Source Storage. "Across industries, we see enterprises migrating to open source technology for the performance and cost advantages. With the ZX and N1.618 Middleware, we've made the transition to open source data storage easier than ever before."
According to the International Data Corporation (IDC), the global volume of digital data is growing by 40% to 50% per year, and by 2020 our 40 trillion gigabyte digital universe will be 50 times larger than it was in 2010. The amount of information managed by enterprise datacenters will grow 50-fold as well. The Open Cluster ZX aims to help enterprises meet this growth while controlling the costs of data ownership.
The highly scalable Open Cluster ZX permits up 1024 nodes and more than 72 trillion exabytes of storage—enough to hold the 2015 digital universe more than 9.1 billion times over. A typical configuration holds 384 terabytes, or 393 million gigabytes.
