ONYX Graphics Announces Version X10.1 Production RIP Software
Includes G7 support tools; offers JDF option and multi-page PDF optimizations
SALT LAKE CITY, April 26, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- ONYX Graphics, Inc. today released version X10.1 of its market-leading production RIP products: ONYX® ProductionHouse™, ONYX PosterShop® and ONYX RIPCenter™. Version X10.1 software includes tools and options that improve productivity and assures consistent print quality.
This new version includes a feature that makes it a support tool for G7® process to help users produce excellent balanced gray and color consistency across print devices that meet G7 standards. It also offers an optional JDF module to provide workflow connectivity for those print providers using JDF workflow components. The ability to split multi-page PDF files is also available, which optimizes production for jobs created from Adobe® Illustrator® artboards.
"We are pleased to offer the only wide format RIP products recognized by IDEAlliance as G7 support tools," explains Danielle Mattiussi, Director of Product Portfolio and Business Development at ONYX Graphics. "ONYX ProductionHouse and ONYX PosterShop software users can achieve G7 Certification with their wide format devices, ensuring ONYX Graphics customers win over and impress demanding digital print buyers."
G7 support tool
G7 is a proof-to-print process based on a set of color criteria developed to ensure digital print technology elements – RIP, printer, media and ink – can reproduce a typical offset lithography sheet. The G7 process specifies a calibration method that helps printers reliably achieve a close "visual match" from proof to press. Consistent and accurate proofs can reduce costs, decrease turnaround times and eliminate re-makes of a print job.
The new G7 support tool in version X10.1 helps shops achieve gray and color consistency across all of their wide and grand format printers driven by ONYX RIP software. This tool was developed to work with CHROMiX Curve2 software, the most widely used software for performing G7 calibration. Curve2 software is used to generate the G7 calibration targets; ONYX PosterShop and ONYX ProductionHouse software import the calculated data and automatically set the calibration targets. This makes it much easier for print shops to achieve G7 Certification.
ONYX Graphics is the first RIP software company to integrate Curve2 software into the profiling process. For more information on Curve2 software, visit www.chromix.com.
JDF-enabled option
Job Definition Format (JDF) is an interface standard developed for and by the graphic arts industry to facilitate automated print workflows. This digital job ticket can now be shared between systems automatically reducing the manual intervention that is required to move a job through the shop. It minimizes the expense associated with errors, increasing reliability and ultimately leading to higher quality.
"JDF enhances our automation capabilities beyond Quick Sets by extending our connectivity to other JDF-enabled products," said Mattiussi. "We are excited to offer the JDF option and take a leading position in the growth of JDF within the wide format market."
This feature is available as an option for ONYX PosterShop and ONYX ProductionHouse version X10.1 software.
Multi-page PDF optimizations
Due to the growing popularity of the artboards feature in Adobe Illustrator software, print shops are seeing an increase in multi-page PDF print jobs. Using artboards gives designers the ability to work on multiple images and sizes in a single PDF file, which is faster and easier to organize. However, most wide format RIP software does not handle these files efficiently, costing print shops time and money.
With the new multiple page PDF optimizations in version X10.1, the ONYX RIP-Queue can process each different page size and optimize page nesting for maximum media savings. It also speeds performance since each page can be processed and sent to the printer individually, without having to wait for the entire PDF file to be processed. This feature is included in ONYX RIPCenter, ONYX PosterShop and ONYX ProductionHouse version X10.1 software.
Availability
Version X10.1 will be available at the end of May 2011. ONYX ProductionHouse, ONYX PosterShop and ONYX RIPCenter version X10 users that purchased a license on April 11, 2011 or later are already licensed for version X10.1 and will be able to download the new version from www.onyxgfx.com.
