ONOS Introduces David Boswell as Community Manager
Expert to Lead Rapidly Growing Open Source SDN Community; ONOS software downloaded more than 11,000 times in 10 months
MENLO PARK, Calif., Oct. 19, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- ONOS today announced the appointment of David Boswell as its first ONOS community manager. David is an expert in growing open source communities including Mozilla, and leading active open source communities for companies including NASA, Sun Microsystems and Nokia. This news, along with last week's announcement of a partnership with The Linux Foundation, will fuel continued rapid growth of the ONOS community as contributors participate to advance the ONOS project through contributions to ONOS features and functions, and to existing and new solutions enabled by ONOS, GUI, testing, documentation, training and others. In the 10 months since it was launched, ONOS software has been downloaded more than 11,000 times.
As community manager, David will be responsible for organizing, growing and scaling the ONOS community. His expertise comes from working with Mozilla for 15 years in different roles as a volunteer contributor and then head of community building. During his tenure, the Mozilla community multiplied, became more collaborative and significantly increased contributions. Key accomplishments include redesigning Mozilla's Get Involved Site at mozilla.org and increasing the number of volunteers interested in contributing to 200 people per day. The success of Mozilla is a result of its collaborative community that contributes to all aspects of Mozilla's open source projects and products. David also recently consulted with the open source Digital Manufacturing Commons project, which is part of an effort to revitalize manufacturing that is being driven by the Obama administration. David provided strategic guidance to ensure the project had the capabilities they needed to scale up their community going forward.
"The growth of the ONOS community in less than one year is impressive," said David Boswell, ONOS community manager. "With a shared belief to harness the power of open source to accelerate SDN innovation, I am excited to join ONOS to bring organization and scale."
"ONOS is on a path to building a strong collaborative global community to achieve great results," said Guru Parulkar, Executive Director and Board Member at ON.Lab/ONOS project. "With David's proven experience in leading and growing open source communities and our Linux Foundation strategic partnership, now is the perfect time for David to be joining as community manager."
