Only Courthouse In America Known To Host Synchronized Light And Music Show Is In Marshall, Texas
MARSHALL, Texas, Dec. 28, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- As the only known working courthouse in the United States to host a spectacular light and music show, the Historic Harrison County Courthouse in Marshall, Texas continues to shine bright each evening through December 31 during Marshall, Texas' Wonderland of Lights Festival.
Built in 1901, the Harrison County Courthouse serves as an active office for county officials, with its courtroom also hosting federal trials for the nearby Federal District Court as well as Harrison county government proceedings. The courthouse was renovated during the past decade at a cost of $10 million, and has been featured prominently in many historic and tourism publications. Adorned with more than 250,000 LED Christmas lights, the Courthouse takes on a truly majestic feel during the holiday season, providing a wonderful centerpiece for the Wonderland of Lights Festival.
The courthouse is the setting for nightly synchronized light and music shows set to a variety of Christmas songs and is presented by Steve and Penny Carlile and Celebrating Home. The evening light and music shows begin each night at 6 p.m. and have become a crowd favorite during the festival. No two shows are exactly alike and are sure to please everyone in the family. The synchronized Christmas light shows have become the "don't miss" attraction of the Wonderland of Lights Festival. It's really no surprise, with the crown-jewel of Harrison County as the backdrop; the shows are pleasing for visitors of any age. The synchronized light and music shows are held multiple times nightly between 6 and 10 p.m.
The courthouse will also set the scene for a special New Years Eve celebration. Visitors can ring in the New Year in downtown Marshall with all Wonderland of Lights Festival attractions open until mid-night. A night of family fun is on tap and visitors young and old will enjoy the celebration in downtown Marshall with the evening capped off with a ball drop from the historic Hotel Marshall located near the courthouse.
