Only Chance to See World-Class Rugby in the NY Metro Area This Saturday Afternoon, June 19

NEW YORK, June 17 /PRNewswire/ -- This Saturday afternoon, June 19th, New York area sports fans will have the unique chance to see six of the world's best men's national rugby teams play in the finals matches of the Churchill Cup, a world-class championship that is being held on the East Coast of the U.S. for the very first time.

The always-popular England Saxons will battle Canada for the Championship Cup title at 2:45 pm, while the USA Eagles, featuring Brooklyn's own Mike Petri, will finish the day when they take on one of the world's best rugby teams, France A at 5:30 pm.  The opening match of the day is at 12 noon, when Russia tangles with Uruguay.  All this action takes place during the Churchill Cup Finals which are to be played at the easy-to-get-to Red Bull Arena in nearby Harrison NJ.

Rugby originated in England in the 1800's and the Churchill Cup represents the growing appeal of the sport in Europe and the Americas.  According to Terry Burwell, the Tournament and Competition Director, "The championship is named for 20th Century British statesmen, Winston Churchill, whose heritage was both English and American.  His mother was originally from New York City.  So, it is appropriate that we are bringing the Churchill Cup Finals to the NY metro area."
