Online reviews platform Trustpilot appoints Tim Weller as non-executive chairman
LONDON, March 12, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Trustpilot, an online review-driven community and platform that builds relationships between consumers and businesses, today announces the appointment of its new non-executive chairman Tim Weller. Tim takes the position as Trustpilot embarks on its next strategic phase, expanding the community's reach and developing its platform to improve consumer to business dialogue.
Tim is a successful entrepreneur and business leader within the publishing and technology industries. Most notably founding Incisive Media in 1995 and growing it to a £250 million plus publishing and events business within 13 years. During this time, Tim was named one of Ernst & Young's Entrepreneurs of the year. He continues to hold the position of group chief executive for Incisive Media, a privately held company.
As an active angel investor in technology and internet related start-ups, Tim has previously held chairman roles at Recoverex Group, Workdigital, RDF Media and Polestar. He is also currently chairman of North Investment Partners.
Joining the Trustpilot executive team at an important time, Tim's appointment follows the completion of a recent funding round aimed to drive expansion of the business. Trustpilot has already built a strong following in Denmark, Sweden, UK, France, Germany, Italy and is now entering the US.
Trustpilot is a platform for ecommerce businesses to engage with customers directly by inviting them to provide reviews of their online experience. This enables brands to have a better dialogue with customers and channel feedback to improve business operations and customer satisfaction.
Following rapid growth, Trustpilot now offers Trustscores based on more than 6 million reviews, for over 100,000 ecommerce businesses. The community is proving popular with consumers who want to share first-hand customer service experiences, not only with companies directly, but more widely with other consumers looking for peer reviews to help them make informed choices.
Peter Muhlmann, chief executive officer at Trustpilot, comments on the appointment: "Following the recent funding we have been focused on our expansion strategy and moving the business forward towards our goal of making Trustpilot the open de-facto standard for customer reviews. Having a person of Tim's caliber join our team is a significant milestone for Trustpilot; Tim's experience in growing successful businesses, combined with his industry knowledge, is going to be hugely beneficial for the organisation and I am really pleased to welcome him to the Trustpilot team."
Commenting on his appointment, Tim Weller said, "Trustpilot is a young and innovative company, which is well-positioned as part of the customer service revolution, to empower consumers to shape the future of ecommerce experiences. The power of online customer recommendations is a 21st century phenomena that will continue to influence on and offline purchasing decisions worldwide. I'm excited to be involved with Trustpilot at this stage in its growth. "
In December 2012, Trustpilot raised an additional €10million in an investment round led by Index Ventures. Index joined leading Nordic technology investor Northzone and SEED Capital, who were already early-stage investors of Trustpilot.
