Online Education Leader Ashworth College Receives Approval to Accept Post 9/11 GI Bill Education Benefits
NORCROSS, Ga., Dec. 17, 2010 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Now there are more opportunities for active duty military personnel and veterans to maximize their education benefits by pursing a degree program with Ashworth College. Starting December 13, 2010, Ashworth (http://www.ashworthcollege.edu), a leader in online education began accepting Post 9/11 GI Bill education benefits.
In addition to its more than 115 existing self-paced programs, Ashworth has launched two Associate Degree programs in its new Term Enrollment format – Criminal Justice and Business Management. With term learning, students are now able to pursue their degrees in standardized eight week cycles, which is compliant with Post 9/11 GI Bill guidelines. Over time, Ashworth plans to roll out this format among other degree programs.
Like military students in Ashworth's self-paced programs, service members, veterans and dependents enrolled in a Term Enrollment program have access to all the same benefits and services including dedicated Military advisors, little to no out-of-pocket costs, the ability to pause studies if deployed, and credit for military and past work experience.
"Post 9/11 GI Bill benefits provide significant advantages for the military family," said Melissa Maddox, Ashworth Military Education Coordinator. "It provides supplemental benefits should a service member deplete his or her regular tuition benefits. And they have the opportunity to transfer their benefits to a spouse or other dependants."
Maddox also pointed out that many of Ashworth's programs lend themselves to the military lifestyle, including those in criminal justice, business, and computer technology.
Training for military promotion points and for civilian transition
Distance Education institutions like Ashworth College are popular among service members and their spouses because it is conducive to military lifestyle. Subject to frequent deployments, often at short notice, service members can't always be guaranteed that they will be able to complete a semester at a traditional brick and mortar school. Fortunately, online education is more convenient, allowing students to study where ever they are stationed.
According to Leslie Gargiulo, Ph.D., Vice President of Education at Ashworth College, distance education programs like Ashworth's offer a seemingly unlimited opportunity to learn for anyone with a computer and access to the Internet.
"Online programs are ideal for service members, giving them the flexibility they need to become successful students," said Dr. Gargiulo, referring to spouses being able to pause a program during relocation and the convenience of being able to study at home. "And because all of Ashworth's programs are nationally accredited and our instructors are working professionals, our students are assured to get the quality education they deserve."
Dr. Gargiulo went on to explain that the Post 9/11 GI Bill is also beneficial to those who have already separated from active duty. "Not everyone is able to continue their education while enlisted. Because Ashworth offers a comparable accredited education, compared to similar schools our tuition is significantly less," she said. "Veterans can still pursue a degree with little to no out-of-pocket costs."
