Online bidders play major role in auction -- despite nationwide outage
ATLANTA, March 3, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Even a nationwide Internet outage during the maiden voyage of a new simulcast bidding system couldn't dampen the enthusiasm of online bidders Tuesday as John Dixon & Associates sold scores of properties around the Southeast for more than $5 million.
"We had just upgraded to a new system for broadcasting our auctions and taking bids, and after a lot of test runs, we took it live for the first time -- just as nationwide outage of Amazon Web Services hit. Even so, about half our bidders were watching and bidding online, and about a third of the properties sold to those bidders," said John Dixon, president of the auction company.
"The outage affected the chat functions and video quality, but we worked around those issues, and the online bidders were a major part of a very successful auction that went well over $5 million, even with some sellers still deciding whether to accept bids on reserve properties. When you do live auctions for years, you learn to improvise," said Dixon. "It helped that we had a number of very nice properties to sell, including quality commercial buildings, and commercial and residential land. Our staff put a lot of work into offering a quality lineup, and we saw a renewed enthusiasm among bidders," he said.
Dixon noted that the company also has implemented new methods of tracking its marketing efforts. "The auction business slows down in December and January, and we spent that time putting new marketing techniques into place that will help us allocate marketing budgets to media that produce the most bidders. That will be very important to our sellers, who depend on us to use their marketing dollars wisely," said Dixon.
The company is currently evaluating properties for upcoming multi-seller auctions. Individuals, investors and companies seeking to sell real estate may visit www.johndixon.com or call 770-425-1141 for more information.
