NASHVILLE, Tenn., Dec. 10, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- OneOncology announced the election of former U.S. Senate Majority Leader, Bill Frist to its board of directors. Sen. Frist brings unparalleled insights to OneOncology as a nationally-acclaimed thoracic surgeon, designing effective, bipartisan healthcare policy, and building patient-centered healthcare companies.
"We are honored to have Senator Frist as part of our organization," said Tracy L. Bahl, OneOncology President & CEO. "Senator Frist will add immeasurable value to OneOncology across multiple dimensions. As a surgeon, he reinforces our commitment to building a physician-led organization, as the former Senate Majority Leader, his counsel will help our practices navigate the evolving regulatory environment, and as an entrepreneur, he will lend incredible insight into technology-powered cancer care delivery – all of which support a differentiated patient experience across the entire continuum of care."
Sen. Frist believes technology enables the most comprehensive and compassionate care experience for patients and their families. As a OneOncology Board Director, Sen. Frist said he will focus on helping OneOncology leverage its technology and data platform to drive its physician-led and patient-centric model.
"By establishing a physician-governed organization, every oncologist in our network can provide their patients with the best care, close to their home," Frist said. "Through a nationally connected network and technology platform, OneOncology can standardize and share best-in-class treatment protocols, cancer therapies, and clinical trials to offer patients outcomes that at one time were deemed unimaginable."
Sen. Frist is the fourth physician on the OneOncology Board of Directors, joining founding Board members, Dr. Jeffrey Patton, CEO of Tennessee Oncology; Dr. Jeff Vacirca, CEO of New York Cancer & Blood Specialists; and Dr. Lee Schwartzberg, Executive Director of West Cancer Center.
Sen. Frist is board certified in both general and heart surgery and has performed over 150 heart and lung transplants and authored over 100 peer-reviewed articles during his 20-year medical career.
From 1993 to 2007, Sen. Frist served in the U.S. Senate from Tennessee and was elected as Majority Leader in 2003. During his tenure, Sen. Frist led the passage of the 2003 Medicare Modernization Act and the historic PEPFAR HIV/AIDS legislation that has saved millions of lives worldwide. After fulfilling his promise to serve only two terms in the Senate, Sen. Frist, a partner in Frist Cressey Ventures, has spent the last eleven years building mid-sized patient-centric healthcare companies.
For Sen. Frist, the OneOncology mission is personal. "I come from a family of physicians," Frist said. "Health, hope, and healing are why I've spent my lifetime in healthcare and why I look forward to working with the OneOncology team to create the change that cancer care in the U.S. needs."
