New offerings in accident, critical illness and hospital indemnity will help strengthen employees' financial protection and advance the organization's long-term growth
INDIANAPOLIS, Oct. 19, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- OneAmerica Financial today announced it will enter the supplemental health insurance market in 2027 with the launch of accident, critical illness and hospital indemnity products. A key milestone in expanding its employee benefits product suite, the decision advances the organization's long-term growth strategy, while continuing to focus on the excellent service and relationships brokers and customers have come to know.
The expansion is expected to complement the already-established life and disability insurance business of OneAmerica Financial. Offering a broader suite of employee benefits solutions for brokers and policyholders can help employers address workforce needs and strengthen their employees' financial well-being. The addition gives brokers greater flexibility to build more comprehensive benefits solutions while simplifying the experience through a broader product suite from one provider. For consumers, supplemental health coverage can help close financial gaps left by traditional medical insurance, providing added protection and peace of mind during unexpected health events.
Supplemental health insurance can provide cash benefits for covered accidents, serious illnesses and hospital stays. From an accident or broken bone to a cancer diagnosis, mental health needs or an intensive care unit admission, for example, these medical challenges can bring financial concerns at a time when employees already have enough to manage. Supplemental health protection can help provide an additional financial cushion, allowing employees to focus more on getting better and less on the unexpected expenses that may come with their care.
The new offerings will be delivered through a modern benefits administration platform in collaboration with FINEOS. The integrated software solution creates a scalable foundation for future growth while enhancing the experience for employers, brokers and employees.
"Employers are increasingly looking for benefits that protect employees from short-term crises that can derail long-term financial progress," said Joe Ingream, president of Employee Benefits at OneAmerica Financial. "Adding supplemental health products gives employees greater protection against unexpected medical and income disruptions without jeopardizing their retirement savings."
All OneAmerica Financial supplemental health products will feature some of the most important priorities in today's employee benefits market. Products include a full wellness suite, nearly 100 covered accidental injuries, more than 50 covered critical conditions (11 of those are for children) and coverage for newborns at birth, to name a few.
"Entering the supplemental health market is a natural extension of our employee benefits strategy," said Christine Coburn, vice president, Employee Benefits at OneAmerica Financial. "We're investing not only in new products, but also in the technology and capabilities required to deliver a simpler, more efficient experience. These investments strengthen our ability to meet customer needs today while positioning us for sustainable growth in the future."
Supplemental health insurance products have become an increasingly important component of employer-sponsored benefits programs as organizations seek ways to support workforce financial wellness and provide greater choice in benefits offerings. A few facts:
- U.S. residents owe a minimum of $220 billion in medical debt.1
- Approximately 14 million people in the U.S. owe more than $1,000 in medical debt.1
- About 3 million people owe medical debt of more than $10,000.1
- Roughly 78% of U.S. workers report living paycheck to paycheck.2
With the addition of supplemental health insurance, OneAmerica Financial continues to evolve its employee benefits business to help employers and brokers meet the changing needs of today's workforce. The expanded portfolio reflects the organization's commitment to delivering valuable protection, trusted service and solutions designed to support employees through life's unexpected moments.
