One Nation Under A Groove: Honoring Leaders in the March for Jobs, Justice, and Education for All
WASHINGTON, Sept. 27 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Before we march on 10.2.10, let's party with a purpose! The "One Nation Under a Groove" Fundraiser will be held Friday, October 1, 2010, 5:00pm - 9:00pm at Bar 7. Black Youth Vote!, a project of the National Coalition on Black Civic Participation (NCBCP), is raising funds to support "Get Out the Vote" (GOTV) efforts and programming for Black Youth Vote! in preparation for the November 2nd elections. Also on this night, we will honor intergenerational alumni as well as national leaders who have contributed greatly to the cause of empowering black youth between the ages of 18-35 and the overall plight of African-Americans across the country. Our honorees include Ben Jealous, Rev. Al Sharpton, Irene Schwoeffermann, David Johns, Melanie Campbell and Illai Kenney.
The "One Nation Under A Groove" Fundraiser is an intergenerational event held this Friday, October 1, 2010 at Bar 7 located at 1015 1/2 7th Street, NW, across from the Washington Convention Center. There is limited street parking, valet parking is available, and the Mt Vernon/Convention Center (yellow/green lines) and Chinatown (yellow/green/red lines) metro stops are in walking distance. The suggested contribution of $20.00 will support "Get Out the Vote" (GOTV) efforts and programming for Black Youth Vote!.
Black Youth Vote! (BYV!), a project of the National Coalition on Black Civic Participation (NCBCP), is a broad based coalition of organizations and individuals committed to increasing political and civic involvement among black men and women aged 18-35. BYV! is youth led and dedicated to educating young voters in the Black community who are increasingly disenfranchised and alienated from the electoral and legislative process.
