One Call Announces New Wound Resource Program with Broadspire®
Program focuses on prevention and treatment of difficult to heal wounds
JACKSONVILLE, Fla., Sept. 11, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- One Call, the nation's leading provider of workers' compensation care management services, and Broadspire®, a subsidiary of Crawford & Company® and a leading global third-party administrator, today announced a partnership to develop a customized patient-centric wound resource program to improve wound healing of injured workers.
The primary goal of wound care is to provide optimal conditions for the natural reparative processes to take place on their own. One Call's new wound resource program, in partnership with Broadspire, utilizes evidence-based protocols to proactively identify injured workers who either have a non-healing wound or may be at risk for developing wounds.
Wounds that have continued for more than 30 days are 36-69 percent less likely to heal. Chronic wounds affect 5.7 million people in the U.S. at an annual cost of $20 billion.[1] Pressure ulcers are among the most common chronic wounds. According to the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ), pressure ulcers account for more than 17,000 lawsuits annually and are the second most common claim after wrongful death. Sadly, about 60,000 patients die as a direct result of a pressure ulcer each year. [2]
"Pressure ulcers and other chronic wounds have an enormously detrimental impact on function and overall healing," said Dr. Marcos Iglesias, chief medical officer at Broadspire. "This partnership primes us for success with an early engagement approach that focuses on prevention, early wound management and intervention."
Along with recommendations for treatment and patient care, the program incorporates innovative technology like remote wound monitoring and the combined clinical expertise of One Call and Broadspire to access injured workers regardless of care venue. This unique ability helps with improving healing times, prevention of recurring wounds and ultimately returning patients back to work and life faster.
"Clinical programs like wound resource enable us to view the injured worker holistically so we can provide support at any stage of recovery, from injury to discharge," said Will Smith, chief product officer at One Call. "When we consider all of their needs across the continuum of care we improve outcomes, quicken return-to-work times and lower costs. It really is a win-win approach."
This is the second clinical partnership between One Call and Broadspire who released their amputee solutions program earlier this year.
