BROOKFIELD, Wis., March 14, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Richard Gallegos, DREI, CDEI, education manager for OnCourse Learning Real Estate, is scheduled to speak about good business writing and oral skills in the real estate industry and present a paper on expansive thinking at the 34th Annual American Real Estate Society Meeting April 10 to April 14 in Bonita Springs, Fla.
The annual meeting features more than 200 research paper presentations, 18 panel sessions, a doctoral seminar and an all-day "Critical Issues Seminar" that is jointly organized and sponsored by major industry trade associations. The event draws an audience of real estate thought leaders from around the world.
Communication skill panel details
Gallegos is one of five esteemed speakers scheduled to participate in the 8:15 a.m. April 13 panel discussion "Business Writing and Oral Communication Skills: Teaching and Assessment Methods." The panel is comprised of moderator Tanya Bansal, University of Maryland, and panelists Gallegos; Margaret McFarland, University of Maryland; Rosemary Carucci Goss, Virginia Tech; Charles Davidson, Villanova University; and Karen McGrath, University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign.
As part of the conference's education track, the panel will explore what is being done in real estate classes at the university level to ensure real estate curriculum and pedagogy provides students with these critical skills.
"Having top-notch business writing and oral communication skills can mean the difference between success and failure as well as play a role in how far real estate professionals are able to go in their careers," Gallegos said. "In the real estate industry, being able to communicate clearly and concisely in a businesslike manner is just as important as great marketing or keeping apprised of current real estate trends."
Expansive thinking presentation
Gallegos also is presenting on the use of expansive thinking, which he has used in teaching real estate courses in live class settings, at 8:15 a.m. April 14 during the ARES Conference.
"Attendees of my presentation will be able to recognize how to apply expansive thinking to draw a correlation between the common elements related to real estate and new concepts in new and creative ways," Gallegos said. "Learning this new tangible skill set will broaden the attendees' existing knowledge base and enable more effective collaboration with peers, students and clientele."
During his presentation, Gallegos will cover the following:
- How expansive thinking works
- How educators can use this teaching method to introduce new material
- How to use team building and questions in teaching new concepts
- How to teach the difference between knowledge and wisdom
