On Veterans Day, Catholic Charities Network Pledges Support to All Who Have Served
Catholic Charities USA President Recognizes Service and Sacrifice of Armed Forces
ALEXANDRIA, Va., Nov. 11, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- On Veterans Day, Catholic Charities USA, along with its network of over 160 social service agencies across America, expresses its gratitude for the service and sacrifice of all of our country's military men and women.
"On this day, we recognize with gratitude all who have served our nation in the armed forces," said Father Larry Snyder, president of CCUSA. "Their service and dedication deserves recognition year-round, but especially today. We pray for all the men and women who have served, and for their families, as we reaffirm our commitment that no one who put on a uniform should ever go hungry or have trouble making ends meet."
The Catholic Charities network lives out this dedication to ensure that our veterans and their families should never be left behind. This summer, sixteen Catholic Charities agencies were awarded Supportive Services for Veteran Families Program grants from the Department of Veterans Affairs, which will enable them to serve nearly 3,600 veteran households.
In a recent snapshot survey of CCUSA's agency network, nearly two-thirds of Catholic Charities agencies with a nearby military base reported that they are collaborating with the bases to provide services to strengthen families and communities.
"We remember in prayer all who are in harm's way, as well as all who have already given so much," said Father Snyder. "The wounds and scars of those who have answered the call to protect and defend can be long-lasting, and our network pledges to stand by them if they are ever in need."
