On Giving Tuesday, World Vision brings charitable giving to life in New York's Bryant Park
Celebrities join World Vision at the Give-back Gift Shop to encourage people to #ShineBright with generosity
NEW YORK, Nov. 22, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- This holiday season, the Christian humanitarian organization World Vision is inviting Christmas shoppers to go Christmas giving at a first-of-its kind interactive pop-up shop inside Bryant Park's iconic Winter Village. The Give-back Gift Shop (open November 27 -29, 11 a.m. – 8:30 p.m.) gives visitors a chance to step into the pages of World Vision's holiday Gift Catalog. All the charitable gifts featured at the shop also appear online at www.wordlvision.org. The Give-back Gift Shop is part of the organization's #ShineBright movement, a bold effort to spark more than a million acts of generosity before New Year's Day helping prove that kindness is contagious.
What can you do at the Give-back Gift Shop?
Families will see, touch and experience the impact of their generosity first-hand at the shop. Proceeds from the shop will go to World Vision's programs around the world and right here in the United States.
At the shop, holiday shoppers will get the chance to:
- Pet a goat or snap a selfie with other live farm animals and learn how these animals transform communities
- Use a working water pump and experience what it's like for a child who walks an average of 6 kilometers (3.7 miles) a day to collect water
- Snuggle up inside a huge Mongolian Ger and feel how these homes protect families from temperatures below -40 degrees
- Build a care kit that will provide relief items to U.S. families impacted by disasters like Hurricanes Harvey and Irma
- Take a virtual tour to a village in Africa to learn how sponsorship can help change a child's life
Exclusive celebrity appearances at the Give-back Gift Shop:
- Monday, November 27: HGTV's JD Scott will milk a goat with the hope of getting 16 cups of milk, which is what one goat can provide daily to help lift a family in need out of poverty.
- Tuesday, November 28: Grammy-award winning singer/songwriter Jennifer Nettles will visit and build care kits for those in need in the U.S., like Hurricane Harvey survivors in Texas.
- Wednesday, November 29: Emmy-award winning actress Patricia Heaton will take photos with select shoppers who donate an animal to provide nutrients and income to a family in need.
At the Give-back Gift Shop, shoppers will see first-hand how one gift can light up an entire community. For example, the gift of one goat ($85) provides a family with up to 16 cups of milk a day, and the extra milk can be sold at the local market, providing a regular source of income for the family. Goats are a gift that keeps on giving, feeding hungry families often for 10 years or more. Gifts can be purchased in a loved one's name and a personalized card will be sent that describes the gift and its impact.
On Giving Tuesday any donation given to World Vision will have twice the impact, thanks to a partnership with Thirty-One Gifts. For every donation to World Vision on November 28, Thirty-One Gifts will provide up to $1 million in backpacks, apparel, and bags to help women and children in need here in the United States and around the world.
World Vision's Gift Catalog began in 1996 with a handful of humanitarian gifts. Today, the catalog gives shoppers more than 250 tangible ways to improve the lives of children and their communities. Gifts range in price from $16 to $50,000. Last year, more than 144,000 people donated more than 301,000 items from the Gift Catalog that helped families in need around the world.
