Omnicom Announces Serge Dumont Steps down as Vice Chairman, and Chairman, Omnicom Asia Pacific
NEW YORK and HONG KONG, Oct. 12, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Omnicom Group Inc. today announced that Serge Dumont, Vice Chairman, Omnicom Group Inc. (NYSE: OMC) and Chairman, Omnicom Asia Pacific, is leaving the company to increase his focus on philanthropic and investment activities.
Mr. Dumont joined Omnicom Group in 2006 as Senior Vice President and President Asia Pacific and was appointed to his current position in June 2011. Often referred to as the 'founder of the public relations industry in China,' he has made unique and pioneering contributions to the industry and is widely recognized as an authority on strategic communications, M&A activities and Chinese Global expansion.
In making the announcement, Omnicom Group Chairman and CEO John Wren said, "During his tenure, Omnicom experienced a period of significant growth in the Asia-Pacific region. In particular, his deep knowledge of China has contributed to our success there. Through his expertise, he has made a major contribution to building our agencies' capabilities and reach."
Mr. Dumont said that it had been immensely satisfying to have been operating at the inflection point of increased international interest in Asia and outward investment from China. "I am leaving Omnicom after a full 12-year cycle, knowing that the firm is in a much better position to compete and win in Asia and with Asian clients globally. With its ability to service all marketing communications sectors, the leadership team is positioned to take on the challenges of an increasingly Asia-centric world. I can now focus on my core interest of impactful philanthropy and investment."
Dumont has been involved in philanthropic activities in the areas of public health and education including being a United Nations Special Representative for UNAIDS. His contributions to society have been recognized through honors and awards from a number of national governments and international organizations.
Dumont added, "I commend Omnicom for its commitment to training and education: since 2006, the prestigious Tsinghua University in Beijing hosts an Omnicom Building and since 2007, Omnicom University has been welcoming the company's employees from Asia to a yearly session at CEIBS in Shanghai. I have also been privileged to be involved with Omnicom's diversity and inclusion initiatives such as Omniwomen and Open Pride, as Global Executive sponsor. Both initiatives have generated a significant amount of enthusiasm and passion in Asia and around the world."
"We thank Serge for his contributions to laying out a solid foundation on which we will build our next phase of growth and wish him well in his future endeavors," Wren concluded.
