Omni Gear sponsors Team China in the FIA's Electrifying new race series Formula E
HOUSTON, Oct. 23, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Formula E is an FIA governed single-seat series that features electric race cars. It is the world's first fully-electric racing series.
The inaugural season began September 13th, 2014 in Beijing. The series then moves on to Malaysia, Uruguay, Argentina, Miami & Long Beach, then on to Berlin and Monaco, completing in June 2015, in London. 10 teams consisting of 2 drivers each are competing for the Championship. Each race will be held on city street race circuits.
This inaugural season, all teams race a series developed car; powertrain is McLaren/Hewland, battery Williams, chassis Dallara, with Spark and Renault completing the car development. Teams and drivers are learning how to maximize the performance of a 28Kwh battery and a 200Kw drive motor, translating that into pole position, fastest laps and race results.
For 2015, the teams will be allowed to 'construct' the powertrain of the vehicle; look for evolution in battery capacity and BMS functionality, improvements in motor/controller concepts, powertrain performance, acceleration, power. Chassis, body, suspension changes will be minimized to hold down development costs.
Formula E is intended to be the pinnacle of electric vehicle development, and that is what attracted Omni Gear. "After several meetings with Steven Lu, CEO of China Racing, it became very clear that we share intense passion for electric vehicles and motorsports." Craig Daniel- Omni Gear.
While traditionally seen as a manufacture of off-highway gearboxes utilizing ICE hydraulic systems, Omni Gear has become a global leader creating hybrid and pure electric powertrain, from 10 to 400 Kw. "We view our participation with Formula E as a perfect opportunity to advance electric propulsion technologies. Technology developed for racing propels the advancement of both on-highway and off-highway powertrain."
