Omega World Travel Mourns Loss of Beloved Executive, Stan Brown
FAIRFAX, Va., June 29, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Stan Brown, VP of Business Development at Omega World Travel (Omega) headquartered in Fairfax, VA, died Wednesday, June 24, from complications resulting from bladder cancer. He was 71.
Stan's career spanned more than 50 years starting in 1964 with Eastern Airlines where he held managerial and director level positions in sales, marketing and operations, including regional sales director and then VP of Sales for the new Continental-Eastern organization. Later he held various other VP positions with Eastern before working with Oasis, Kiwi International Airlines and Gotham Media Group. He started his own aviation consulting, marketing and advertising services company, The Brown Group, before joining the Omega family in 2002.
In his role as VP of Business Development, Stan served with distinction as a member of the executive team. He worked closely with all Omega's vendors and led strategic marketing efforts that would result in stronger partnerships and increased benefits for Omega, vendors and customers alike. In addition, Stan was Omega's liaison within the business community and forged strong relationships on Omega's behalf with Junior Achievement, US Chamber of Commerce, DC Board of Trade and numerous other organizations engaged in promoting and sustaining business opportunities and education in the communities where Omega has a presence.
In the industry, Stan helped Omega maintain a high profile at industry functions and was an active participant on various airline advisory boards. He loved the industry and was an advocate for finding good people that would sustain it over time. During his tenure with the airlines, Stan introduced an exciting college campus internship program that served as an incubator for successful future travel leaders such as Dave Hilfman, Senior VP of Sales at United Airlines, and Omega's own Sharon Curran, Director of Sales.
"Stan's warm smile and genteel southern manner was a constant at Omega. He had the respect and admiration of all those who were fortunate enough to work with him on a daily basis. He loved Omega. And we loved him. He inspired us. He made us laugh. He challenged us to do our best. He had a kind nature and generous spirit that touched us all. Stan will always be close in mind and heart and will be sorely missed by the entire Omega family," says Gloria Bohan, president, CEO and owner of Omega World Travel.
Stan is survived by Cheryl, his wife of 36 years.
