Olympus Grand Opening of National Service Center East: Great for Region and Industry

Dignitaries who gathered for the grand opening celebration on March 6, 2018 included Bob Rolfe, Commissioner, Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development, and the Honorable A. Keith McDonald, Mayor, City of Bartlett. Leadership from Olympus included Nacho Abia, President and CEO, Olympus Corporation of the Americas; Akihiro Taguchi, Senior Executive Managing Officer, Olympus Corporation, Tokyo, Japan; Joe Doherty, President, Olympus Surgical Technologies America; and Todd Usen, President, Medical Systems Group, Olympus Corporation of the Americas. The celebration featured a Kagami Biraki ceremony—a Japanese custom for celebrating new beginnings—a ribbon cutting, a tour of the facility, and remarks from Olympus executives, and Comissioner Rolfe and Mayor McDonald.

"This Olympus facility represents one of the most significant jobs commitments made by a company to the region in nearly 20 years," said TNECD Commissioner Bob Rolfe. "We're pleased that a global leader in medical devices has recognized the substantial strengths of the area and its people."

The new facility is an expansion to Olympus' existing R&D and surgical manufacturing building on Appling Road which has been operating in Bartlett, TN since 1984. The now expanded campus marks the beginning of a new era for Olympus by further aligning its medical repair and manufacturing capabilities in one location and positioning the Company for long-term growth. In total, the entire campus is expected to provide more than 500 jobs in the community and support one of the largest concentrations of medical device growth in the country.

In 2016, Olympus announced plans to expand its operations in Bartlett, TN. The new National Service Center East serves as Olympus' second national service center, with the company's first such facility located in San Jose, CA. True to the company's vision of making people's lives healthier, safer and more fulfilling, the new facility operates as a service and distribution center for a variety of medical equipment and devices such as endoscopes, surgical devices and generators.
