SANTA MONICA, Calif., April 23, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Edwin (Ted) B. Hathaway, CEO of Oldcastle BuildingEnvelope®, will deliver a presentation titled "Dynamic, Adaptive Building Envelopes" at the University of Calgary's "Building Dynamics: Exploring Architecture of Change" symposium on Saturday, April 27. Leading educators, architects, engineers, manufacturers of building systems and components, and other energy industry experts will meet at the symposium to exchange ideas on the future of the built environment.

"Buildings currently account for 75% of the carbon emissions on the planet, so if we are serious about reducing greenhouse effects we need to explore better ways to design and construct buildings to achieve vastly improved energy performance," says Hathaway.
Hathaway notes, "We can develop building envelopes designed to accept or reject free energy provided by the external ecosystem, and, as a result, significantly reduce the cost of power required to achieve a comfortable, internal environment."
Hathaway will explore the capabilities of Oldcastle BuildingEnvelope®'s proprietary new software BIM IQ®, referencing three case studies: "The Bow," Encana's headquarters in Calgary; Aura, Toronto's tallest condominium tower at 78 stories, now under construction; and DFR 57, a residential project in New York City. The case studies will demonstrate how—with integrated collaboration and technology—the AEC industry can apply performance-based design and achieve more intelligent, energy-efficient buildings.
The April 26-27 symposium, which is open to the public, is made possible by the generous collaboration and support of Oldcastle BuildingEnvelope®. The event is organized by the Faculty of Environmental Design's Laboratory for Integrative Design (LID), at the Banff Center, Banff, Alberta, Canada.
