Old Hollywood Dining Car To Join Rio Grande Scenic Railroad
1948 Dining Car From the New York Central Line To Run on Alamosa- based Railroad through End of Summer
ALAMOSA, Colo., July 12, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- The Rio Grande Scenic Railroad today announced the addition of a classic 1948 dining car from the New York Central line to its collection of historic trains. Until Labor Day, Rio Grande Scenic Railroad customers can ride this stylish rail car on all excursion and Mountain Rails Live Summer Concert trains leaving from Alamosa.
Beginning July 13th, passengers departing from Alamosa on the Rio Grande Scenic Railroad will be treated to a truly classic collection of cars pulled by a steam engine that just celebrated its 100th birthday. The addition of the New York Central Dining Car will give all guests in any seating class the opportunity to enjoy an expertly prepared meal on a stylish dining car like ones seen in movies like Hitchcock's "North by Northwest" starring Cary Grant.
"Having the New York Central Dining Car here in Alamosa for the rest of this season is really exciting," said Ryan Weeks, Passenger Service Manager of the Rio Grande Scenic Railroad. "Being able to offer passengers a classic train dining experience on an Old Hollywood dining car will give us the chance to showcase the exceptional talents of our chef and service staff."
The New York Central Dining Car joins several others on the Alamosa departures over LaVeta Pass: a roomy and comfortable vintage coach car, an open-air car for fresh air and unbeatable photo-ops, and an authentic club car from the City of New Orleans train where passengers can enjoy live music, cocktails and complimentary breakfast and lunch.
The menu aboard the Dining Car includes lunch selections such as: elk burgers with applewood smoked bacon and avocado, the LaVeta Philly sandwich with hand sliced beef and melted Swiss cheese and an award-winning Asian Quinoa Salad with almonds, cucumbers, grape tomatoes and a delicious Asian dressing. All dishes on the menu are $10 or under, making the meals an affordable addition to the train ticket.
Seats are not sold directly into the dining car, so those wishing to experience this rare opportunity are encouraged to purchase any class of seating departing from Alamosa. Tickets can be purchased at www.coloradotrain.com
