Old Friends Receives New Fundraising Technologies from Sportech Racing // Digital
GEORGETOWN, Ky., Nov. 17, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- The non-profit Old Friends Thoroughbred Retirement Center has a new way for farm visitors to show their support, while also bringing home a fun and meaningful souvenir. Sportech Racing // Digital is donating its services and a specialized version of the BetJet SL 2.5 betting terminal to Old Friends. Rather than accepting bets, however, these terminals accept donations for horse care.
The terminals – installed at the Old Friends locations in Georgetown, KY, at Kentucky Downs in Franklin, KY, and at Cabin Creek: The Bobby Frankel Division in New York – are programmed to mimic the process of pari-mutuel betting. Farm visitors enter a donation amount, select a "race" from a special card composed by Old Friends, and then pick their win or exacta "bets". The terminal collects the cash donation and prints a souvenir ticket, so donors take home a ticket with their selections from a field made up of the luminaries of thoroughbred racing who now reside at Old Friends.
Michael Blowen, President and Founder of Old Friends Thoroughbred Retirement Centers, commented, "We are very happy to be able to offer visitors to Old Friends a fun new way to make a donation, while also giving them a token of their visit. It may be just a fantasy to have an exacta with War Emblem and Silver Charm, but it is a great way to remember a day spent with these amazing champions."
Michele Fischer, Vice President of Sales and Business Development for Sportech Racing // Digital said, "When we were approached by Old Friends to help them carry out their vision for this fund raising concept, we were very happy to help. Old Friends is doing vital work in the area of Thoroughbred retirement, and we at Sportech are pleased to offer our technologies and services in support of their mission."
