Oklahoma Loses Long-time Insurance Expert Larry Fitch

OKLAHOMA CITY, June 24, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- The Oklahoma Insurance Department is saddened at the loss of Larry W. Fitch, 71. The general manager of the Oklahoma Property and Casualty Insurance Guaranty Association died Friday.

"Larry has played a major role in the Oklahoma insurance industry for more than forty years," Oklahoma Insurance Commissioner John D. Doak said. "Larry always looked for ways to learn more about insurance issues, and he was always a prominent participant in our educational conferences. He will be greatly missed."

Larry was born and raised in Arizona. He received an undergraduate degree from Oklahoma Baptist University and earned a law degree from LaSalle University in Chicago. Larry spent 30 years at United States Fidelity & Guaranty Company in various management roles. He joined the Oklahoma Property and Casualty Insurance Guaranty Association in 2006 where he served as General Manager until his death.

"Larry was a true professional and worked to ensure that insurance policyholders were taken care of," said former Deputy Insurance Commissioner and Oklahoma City attorney Angela Ables. "He was a steady hand which was good to have when there were issues to resolve involving the guaranty fund. He was also a true gentleman and a great individual to work with over the years."

"Larry was a man of great integrity, compassion, intelligence and spirituality," former Oklahoma Attorney General Larry Derryberry said. "He worked hard to make our guaranty fund a model for the country, and I believe our organization was held in the highest esteem by our colleagues across the nation. Larry was always fair and managed the guaranty fund with the companies and the claimants in mind."

Larry leaves behind his wife of 50 years, Linda, two sons and six grandchildren. A service celebrating Larry's life will be held Saturday, June 27 at 2:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Oklahoma City, 1201 N. Robinson.
