OKCMOA announces programming for the summer blockbuster exhibition, "Kehinde Wiley: A New Republic"
Tickets to tours, lectures, discussions and exhibition on sale today
OKLAHOMA CITY, June 1, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Visitors who want to learn more about the fascinating artist behind "Kehinde Wiley: A New Republic," the Oklahoma City Museum of Art's summer exhibition, will have many opportunities, including tours, lectures, discussions, classes and art making. Tickets to all events go on sale Thursday, June 1.
One of the signature events includes Eugenie Tsai, Ph.D., John and Barbara Vogelstein Curator of Contemporary Art, Brooklyn Museum, who visits the Museum June 16 at 6:30 p.m. to give her lecture called, "Behind the Scenes: 'Kehinde Wiley: A New Republic.'" This lecture is open to Museum members only.
"This exhibition inspires discussion, and we tried to stay true to that in our programming and events," said Tracy Truels, director of learning and engagement. "With 'One Work, Many Voices,' we're encouraging visitors to sit down and explore the artwork in front of them through a dialogue with others. Our public tours will also be conversation-based and allow for further discussion. The scale of the art in this exhibition allows for larger groups to gather and talk about one work; it's really an incredible opportunity for connection."
"We're looking forward to the Members' Preview for this exhibition," said Matthew Cloud, director of development. "The Moderns, our group of young patrons committed to supporting the Museum, are planning the event and have a fantastic lineup of local music, great drinks and an international menu. The talk by Dr. Eugenie Tsai of the Brooklyn Museum is sure to be an exciting behind-the-scenes look at what it takes to curate an exhibition like 'A New Republic.' I encourage everyone to join the Museum and to attend this and other events."
"Kehinde Wiley: A New Republic" is organized by the Brooklyn Museum.
