The CBP 2012 East Coast Trade Symposium is scheduled for October 29-30, 2012 and will be held at the Renaissance DC Downtown Hotel in Washington, DC. The theme for the Trade Symposium is "Expanding 21st Century Global Partnerships."
Mary Jo Muoio, who also serves as a Chair of the National Customs Brokers & Forwarders Association of America (NCBFAA) Customs Committee, will be a panelist for the CBP 2012 East Coast Trade Symposium breakout session "The Role of the Broker Initiative, Changes to Part III." The session aims to better reflect modern and efficient trade practices and to encourage brokers to be force multipliers for CBP's trade facilitation efforts. This session will discuss three primary issues, which are the most complicated elements of the Part III rewrite: Continuing education requirement for brokers, establishing bona fides with importers, and broker permitting requirements to align with the virtual age. Feedback gained during this session will be used to craft policy and propose potential changes to the broker regulations in Part III.
