Ohio Virtual Academy Now Enrolling Students for 2013-2014 Academic Year
MAUMEE, Ohio, April 16, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Ohio Virtual Academy (OHVA), one of the fastest-growing eSchools in Ohio, has opened enrollment for the 2013-2014 school year. OHVA uses the K¹²® curriculum to offer Ohio students in grades K-12 an exceptional learning experience. Accredited by AdvancED and the North Central Association Commission on Accreditation and School Improvement (NCA CASI), the Ohio Virtual Academy provides the individualized learning tools students need to succeed.
To help parents and children learn more about the program, OHVA will host a variety of free events in communities across the state, including online information sessions. At upcoming information sessions and meet-and-greet socials, families are welcome to speak with school representatives about how students are succeeding with OHVA.
Families can find more information on upcoming events and how to enroll by visiting www.K12.com/OHVA.
Students who enroll in OHVA receive the award-winning academic program developed by K12 Inc., which includes engaging web-based lessons along with instructional materials – books, videos, CDs and other hands-on tools and resources – which are shipped directly to each student's home. OHVA provides courses in English/Language Arts, Math, Science, History, Music and Art for students in grades K-8, while the high school program offers students a catalog of more than 150 core, elective, AP and world language courses. OHVA students are active in extracurricular activities, including the school's National Honor Society and National Junior Honor Society chapters, as well as a national network of 100+ clubs that cover a wide variety of interests like Lego, chess, Spanish, American Girls®, photography, guitar, debate and flamenco dance.
OHVA teachers provide instruction, guidance and support and regularly interact with students and parents via email, web-based classrooms, online discussions, phone and face-to-face meetings. They strive to collaborate with parents to develop an Individualized Learning Plan to aid student academic success and meet goals set by parents, students and teachers. Teachers also organize outings and other school activities. Additionally, Lead Teachers at each grade level supervise other instructors, while carrying a reduced class load – a collaboration structure that allows for encouragement and problem solving within the teacher network.
Members of the OHVA 2012 graduating class amassed a total of more than $1.5 million in college scholarship money offered and were accepted to many of the nation's top institutions, including The Ohio State University, University of North Carolina and Brigham Young University, to name a few. OHVA is also a past recipient of the Business Week/GreatSchools.net Parents Choice Award for one of the best high schools in the U.S.
