Ohio Bank Chooses DCI to Preserve 100 Years of Banking on People and Banana Splits
HUTCHINSON, Kan., March 12, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- In southwest Ohio sits a village named Blanchester, a thriving bedroom community to Cincinnati and other villages where residents say the banana split was invented over 100 years ago, and is honored each June with its own festival in nearby Wilmington.
Just like the banana split, The First National Bank of Blanchester has served these communities for over 108 years, and prides itself on the personal relationships it has with the citizens.
"We are a quintessential 'local' community bank," says Doug Naylor, the bank's president & CEO, and lifelong Blanchester resident. "People here know and trust us as a personal part of their daily lives – at their work, school, church, business, and at home."
Unfortunately, after being unwillingly forced through a core technology transition five years ago, the bank was awakened to some stark realities about their future viability with limited technology and a core provider too big to pay attention to them.
According to Naylor, "Our core technology provider was inadequate to provide the future we wanted to give our customers and still provide our personal service."
When the bank set out to make a core change, Naylor decided that finding the right people and product were more important than price—in that order.
But Naylor knows from experience that no amount of research tells you more about a company than real-world experience with their people. "In our first visit with DCI," says Naylor, "we personally met with and talked to more people face-to-face, including DCI executives, than we did the entire five years with our other core provider. In DCI we saw a core company that is big enough to compete, but not too big to care."
As for their options in core software, Naylor said, "Only iCore360 really wowed us long after the demo when we saw it in action at the DCI clients we visited. The others were all show and no go."
In the end, the Ohio bank chose DCI mostly because of the company and its ownership, people, and customer focus, followed by the impressive performance of iCore360, all of which Naylor says created a better overall value for his bank.
John Jones, DCI president and CEO says, "This is a special addition to the DCI family. It is always rewarding to meet bankers in new markets that appreciate the unique difference in service and value we offer. We're excited to see that spread through Ohio like it has elsewhere."
Adds Naylor, "We are proud and excited to be one of the first DCI banks in this region, and feel that DCI and iCore360 bring us a definite advantage. Other Ohio bankers should take notice."
