Official Statement: Moms Demand Action For Gun Sense In America Reacts To Shooting At Washington Navy Yard
INDIANAPOLIS, Sept. 16, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Today's mass shooting at the Washington Navy Yard in our nation's capital is beyond horrific. The victims and their families are in all of our thoughts and prayers. We applaud the efforts of all – military, law enforcement, and civilians – who faced this dangerous situation and bravely worked together to protect many lives today. The gunmen are reported to have been armed with a variety of guns, including semi-automatic weapons. The Navy Yard is a secure military facility, with armed guards posted throughout, yet shooters still managed to carry out a mass shooting.
Today's tragedy is just one more awful example of why Congress and state legislators must act without delay to strengthen our country's gun laws. Mass shootings are taking place in America with alarming and increasing regularity, a situation not being played out in any other country in the developed world. Our school children, college students, military heroes and all other Americans are at-risk every day due to lax laws created with assistance from the gun lobby.
The moms of America are awake and we will not tolerate continued inaction. What will it take to wake legislators up to the epidemic of gun violence that is raging out of control in America?
