Office of Vocational Rehabilitation Earns National Award for Excellence
HARRISBURG, Pa., Jan. 29 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Department of Labor & Industry Secretary Sandi Vito today congratulated the Office of Vocational Rehabilitation, or OVR, for earning the National Council of Rehabilitation Education President's Award for Excellence in Vocational Rehabilitation.
"OVR has worked hard to upgrade the professional standards for Vocational Rehabilitation Counselors," Vito said. "OVR's tireless efforts have improved and enhanced services for Pennsylvanians with disabilities who are seeking opportunities in the workforce."
Bill Gannon, OVR executive director, accepted the award on behalf of OVR.
The President's Award honors state agencies that utilize partnerships between their state vocational rehabilitation agencies and university training programs. The agency must also demonstrate an innovative service program with a special emphasis on partnering with the rehabilitation educational programs nationwide to enhance services to individuals with disabilities who are seeking employment.
Since 2002, OVR has hired more than 400 new Vocational Rehabilitation Counselors, each with a master's degree in rehabilitation counseling. In addition, more than 120 employees who were already working as Vocational Rehabilitation Counselors have upgraded their professional credentials to include certified rehabilitation counselor credentials or a master's degree in rehabilitation counseling.
