Laurie O. Robinson Highlights OJP's Priorities and Commitment to Science-Based Policies—In her remarks at the National Criminal Justice Association National Forum on Criminal Justice and Public Safety in Fort Myers, Fla., on Sunday, Aug. 1, OJP's Assistant Attorney General Laurie O. Robinson explained her commitment to making "data, research, and sound science integral to the way OJP does business." In addition, she outlined the OJP-wide Evidence Integration Initiative she launched last year which is focused on three goals: 1) improving the quantity and quality of evidence that OJP generates through its research, evaluation, and statistical functions; 2) better integrating evidence in program and policy decisions; and 3) improving the translation of evidence into practice.

Attorney General Announces Strategy for Child Exploitation Prevention—Attorney General Eric Holder released the first-ever National Strategy for Child Exploitation Prevention and Interdiction on Monday, Aug. 2. The strategy builds upon the Department's accomplishments in combating child exploitation by establishing specific, aggressive goals and priorities and increasing cooperation and collaboration at all levels of government and the private sector. In addition, OJP's Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP) has issued a bulletin, Effects of Federal Legislation on the Commercial Sexual Exploitation of Children, which describes the results of an OJJDP study that examined the impact of the Victims of Trafficking and Violence Protection Act of 2000 on the federal prosecution of commercial sexual exploitation of children (CSEC) cases.
