National Association of Pretrial Services Agencies 40th Conference and Training Institute, August 21–Acting Assistant Attorney General Mary Lou Leary delivers remarks emphasizing the Department of Justice's and OJP's efforts to improve pretrial services. In addition to highlighting OJP's historical involvement in expanding pretrial services, she will discuss progress made since the Pretrial Justice Symposium held in May 2011. Bureau of Justice Assistance Director Denise O'Donnell, National Institute of Justice Director John Laub, and Office for Victims of Crime Acting Director Joye Frost will speak about their bureaus' work, and Director O'Donnell will moderate a panel following the remarks.
Enter the Stop the Bullying Video Challenge at stopbullying.challenge.gov. –As a member of the Federal Partners in Bullying Prevention, the Office of Justice Programs' Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention encourages youth between 13 and 18 years old to submit original Public Service Announcements by October 14, at 11 p.m. ET. The 30- to 60- second videos should send a positive message to teens about the importance of being "more than a bystander" to bullying in their schools and communities. The grand prize winner will receive $2,000, and the two runners-up will receive $500 each.
