OJP Leadership Addresses Violence Against Native Americans – In remarks at the Task Force on Violence Against American Indian and Alaska Native Women, held in conjunction with the fourteenth Interdepartmental Tribal Justice, Safety, & Wellness Session, December 14, in Albuquerque, New Mexico, Principal Deputy AAG Mary Lou Leary said, "We are working hard to forge strong relationships with tribes that can be translated into real improvements for their communities." Call for Nominations, 2010 Law Enforcement Congressional Badge of Bravery – The U.S. Department of Justice's Bureau of Justice Assistance is accepting nominations now through February 15 for the Federal Law Enforcement Congressional Badge of Bravery and the State and Local Law Enforcement Congressional Badge of Bravery. Nominations must be submitted through the online Congressional Badge of Bravery nominating system, available at www.ojp.gov/BJA/CBOB.
BJS Report Shows First Decline in Four Decades – According to the recent Bureau of Justice Statistics (BJS) report, Prisoners, 2010, the total U.S. prison population fell to 1.6 million at yearend 2010, the first decline in the total prison population in nearly four decades. The BJS also released Correctional Population in the United States, 2010, finding that the correctional population has declined for the second consecutive year. http://www.bjs.gov/.
