Office of Justice Programs Weekly News Brief
WASHINGTON, April 1, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The following is being released by Office of Justice Programs:
New Tool Helps Law Enforcement Find Missing Children and Adults— The Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention's Guide for Implementing or Enhancing an Endangered Missing Advisory (EMA) will help law enforcement agencies notify the public of missing persons cases not meeting strict criteria for an AMBER Alert. The guide will be distributed to AMBER Alert coordinators and law enforcement partners. Both the AMBER Alert and the EMA programs include an agreement between local law enforcement and broadcasters to issue an urgent missing persons bulletin. An AMBER Alert can be issued when a case meets specific criteria, such as confirmation by law enforcement that a child younger than 17 has been abducted and is at risk for serious injury or death. The guide is available at: http://www.ncjrs.gov/pdffiles1/ojjdp/232001.pdf. The criteria for issuing an AMBER Alert are located at: http://www.amberalert.gov/faqs.htm.
